Surfing the web using a mobile device, such as mobile phone or smartphone, is becoming more popular all the time. For instance in China, the number of internet users going online with a mobile device has already now overtaken those doing so with a personal computer. China’s total number of internet users exceeded 632 million by the end of June, and of those, 527 million – or 83 percent – went online via a mobile device.
The global mobile traffic is forecasted to increase sixfold from 2014 to 2018.
Today, global mobile data traffic amounts to ~2.6 exabytes per month. In 2018, global mobile data traffic is forecasted to reach 15.9 exabytes per month.[table id=6 /]
Video is driving the global mobile data traffic growth.
Today, global mobile video traffic amounts to ~1,45 terabytes per month. The mobile video traffic is expected to almost double on yearly basis, reaching 10,95 exabytes per month in 2018.
